Street Modified class

Postby djskywarp » Wed Mar 15, 2006 3:36 pm

I was going through the 2006 SCCA rules and the Street Modified class caught my eye.

SCCA Solo Rules wrote:Drivetrain and related components (induction, ignition, fuel
systems, etc.) are unrestricted except for the following limitations:

Engine block must be a production unit manufactured and
badged the same as the original standard or optional engine
for that model. Badges that exist as marketing aliases for the
manufacturer will be recognized as equivalents. Swaps
involving makes related only at a corporate level are not
recognized as equivalents. Models produced as a joint
venture between manufacturers may utilize any engine from
any partner in the joint venture, provided that an engine from
the desired manufacturer was a factory option in that
particular model (e.g. Eagle Talon available originally with
either a Mitsubishi or Chrysler engine, may use any motor
from Chrysler or Mitsubishi). This allows engine blocks
manufactured as production units for sale in other countries
such as Japan or Germany.

Am I right in interpreting that my 95 Civic EG hatch with a JDM B16A swap would fall in this category?

You would definitely be in Mod under WCMA rules. Engine swaps to a motor never availible in your car in the North American market, is a free pass to Mod. As should be aftermarket forced induction, but thats another thread.......

We don't use the SCCA rules locally.... could change in the future.

But if you were running under the SCCA rules, you could be in Street Mod depending on other mods to the car.

You are correct in your assessment, however we do not use the SCCA rules. In the Canadian rule book you will end up in MOD, most likely CMOD. The 2006 Rules for CAC should be available within the next 2 wks.

edit: *well damn both of you for posting as I'm typing*

I think swaps should be allowed in SP as long as it's a swap for an engine/tranny that came in that car in production form in some part of the world; as well as allowing forced induction (but not both a swap and forced induction on the same car). Only swapping something that never came in a car ie) K20 in an EG Civic or 350 in an RX-7 etc should put you in MOD class. But that's just my opinion. (Sorry, i didn't really have enough to start another thread on this  )

As for the original post, as was stated earlier, we don't use SCCA rules. I thought i'd add that you can swap in ANY Honda motor you want (NSX motor, K-series, Hseries etc.) in Street Mod category. It's definately a big money class in the U.S.A., where it is run.

In a class all your own for bringin up a year old thread :)

What kind of car and what are the mods. G class with 9 points doesn't really tell us anything.

The swap could put you into DMOD. But someone (Ian maybe) would be more familier with what engines could be part of update/backdate. Even so you'll be in SP for sure, which if I'm not mistaken would be DSP. But I'd guess it's DMOD for you :(

It's an update backdate car......as long as the twin cam isn't an SR20. Later cars came with KA 24 twin cam.
