Yes. (As long as you don't exceed your power/weight... As long as you don't have to cut the frame... etc)

Read the rulebook.

Check the Appendix A wrote:STREET MODIFIED CLASS (SM)
Eligible Vehicles:
All sedans/coupes (models which were originally equipped with a
minimum of four seats and four factory seat belts).
Excluded Vehicles:
Porsche (all)
Lotus (all)
Nissan/Datsun Z-car 2+2; pre-1990
Honda CRX
MGB GT
Triumph (all)
Minimum Weight Calculations (without driver):
FWD: 1550 lbs + 125 lbs per liter
RWD: 1800 lbs + 200 lbs per liter
AWD: 1800 lbs + 300 lbs pre liter
Engine behind driver: +25 lbs per liter
Tire width 275mm or less (all): -200 lbs
Regardless of the weight formulas above, no car will be required to
weigh more than 3100 lbs.

BTW, I was just throwing it out there, as something you should read in the rules _before_ you start building as opposed to something I thought you'd actually run into.

ok so after reading the rules i couldnt find anything about adding cross members for frome stiffening or building stronger then stock crossmembers or braces. i also couldnt find anything about the use of a traction bar. and grant as to your frame cutting comment i couldnt find anything saying i couldnt do that either (ie minor frame notch for maintaning suspension travel if i lower the truck more) now that all being said would it be an issue if i did any of these mods and still wanted to compete in sm? or should i just go hang out in emod?

If it doesn't say you can do it, you can't. :)
The SM rules do build on the Stock and SP rules so you might find what you are looking for there. Sub frame connectors are allowed, I think, in SP.
